Greetings. I posted this also on introductions forum since I couldn't post here first.

I got the game from easier nox download topic. Too lazy to find the disc.

I set every exe to run as admin and win98/me compatibility mode. It is installed in user/desktop/Games\nox.

My "computer" is a horrible windows 8 laptop. 64bit. AMD processor and most likely somekind of integrated amd gpu. Updated drivers.

So, when I run the game, I get black screen with mouse pointer. Many flashing mouse pointers if I try to move it. If I click, I can hear nox sounds. Game often crashes.

Any ideas?

edit: It seems I can see flashing NOX logo too.

I don't think windows 8 supports nox....

But my first thoughts would be to

1) Go to desktop and right click and press "screen Resolution"
2) there should be on the right of the screen (on win 7 at least) a "advanced options" text link
3) that should bring you to a page with a drop down menu, press that and select 16 bit 60 hz (or highest it will go)
4) create a desktop short cut for the nox launcher "Game"
5) right click on the icon and select properties
6) under the destination file link "c:/blah/user/blah/blah" add the text "-window" put a space after the stuff so it should look like ""c:/blah/user/blah/blah/random_shit" -window"
7) apply those changes
Cool run nox and see if that works

If there is no 16 colour bit thing for windows 8 you are screwed. So yeah.... Just don't use windows 8...

Adding -window did nothing. Maybe win8 sucks.

I got the game to run "normally" by downloading wined3d.dll, ddraw.dll and libwine.dll and added them to nox folder. Then I changed compatibility to xp sp3 and ran it as admin.

However, after I create my "character" and actually try to get into the game, I just get black screen and somekind of repeating sound.

Did you try changing the video settings in nox?

I think there is a new version of nox available by Dr.Zoa that has a bunch of extra stuff, like running it in a window and stuff. If you download that version it may work.

I tried this SDL thing but running the RunNox.bat does nothing. I see a black command line window for a split second.

right click on the runnox.bat file, select edit

add this to the very end as its own line: pause

Save the bat file, run it again, post what it says

Might be some sort of permissions problem with windows 8, kind of hard to test without a box with the OS.

I'll do some research.

I also had problems with some suggestions I found with google. I can't run the game in a windowed mode with a shortcut. Those extra things did absolutely nothing. Maybe it's one of those windows 8 things.... God I love this OS... If just my real computer wasn't stolen from me.

on windows 8 It has to be on 16 bit color.

Try doing this. Sorry if it is repetitive but it is different on W8 than on Win7.

On that link it says you can't use anything but 32 bit color on windows 8.

I have set game.exe and every other exe to use 16b bit color but this does nothing.

My current computer doesn't exactly have the power to run a virtual machine and then play a game.

You could always install linux on a flash drive and use wine or something. I remember installing Windows xp on a flash drive, very useful. Think it was called win to flash PE or something like that.
