You burned games back then? In 7th grade lol.
Anyways. The nostalgia is strong with you. My haydays were with LutherX bubonic and the clan AGE and UH with Javier
Haha yeah, the thing was 99% of PC games released back then didn't have any CD Keys...and many of them weren't even online. So you could literally just burn the game and have a fully functional copy, I don't want to go on the record as fact but I think that the command and conquer games may have been the first to use CD Keys.
I was also one of those kids that found someone to solder a mod chip into my ps1 and i'd goto local video stores and get all the ps1 games. good times.
Keep in mind that there wasn't any cable internet, no torrent websites...
that same year I was on Nox I found out how to use mIRC channels (pre-napster way to get stuff) to download mp3's as they were basically brand new. I remember making a good amount of money selling the Marshal Mathers LP (possibly the first modern mp3 album leak?) when it leaked a month early in mIRC to kids in junior high school lol. Even more, I remember I used to be able to tell the weight difference of a booster pack of Pokemon cards that had the foil special ones and i'd slang those at jr high school too LOL. needless to say I was selling weed in college.

I do remember the winner of the big big vegas trip contest was Had0ken, I dont think I ever fought against him but i'm sure he was either just some solo guy or he was from ICE or NNN. I remember vividly that all the original ICE clan guys were really fuckin intimidating lol, while I treated all the cronies from Ember like scrubs.
(edit: after reading NOLIMIT's posts I remembered that Robdogg was Battlemage and apparently also Hadok3n...one of my best friends lol but I guess those details slipped by me. NOLIMIT had the coolest name and spawned many other people using that style including myself lol. ][2 //\\ Z ][ ][E ][_ or something like that.)
I should also note that I was shown that Westwood Online was a free service maybe 6-12 months prior to this...my dad's girlfriend at the time had family come in from NY and the uncle was #1 ladder champ of Red Alert for a month. I had been playing C&C since maybe 5th or 6th grade but never really grasped the whole idea of playing people online. He showed me that it was a free service and when i got on Nox I didn't even play the solo campaign till like a year into having the game. I can assume that I may have never even touched the online aspect if I wasn't aware of how to use it at the time.
Also, I came up extremely fast in the game on complete coincidence, I was just some kid who had been playing for like a week, with no clue about Clans or Ranked Matches or Solo Ladder Ratios...I would have gone on for a long long time just playing CTF and messing around if Calix didn't push me into meeting Wolfpack the leader of Krazy and gave me a chance to prove myself.
I know many people who started playing felt it hard to get into the niche of top tier just because there was a lot of egos at that level of gameplay, and the only real open recruitment was scrubs in CTF. you were very quick to judge people on their clan tags and ppl you felt weren't on your level, it was HIGHLY competitive and nobody in the top crews really ever brought new people. When you say names like nataS and KiLL those guys were dudes who stood out bigtime compared to 99% of the population in the 2nd gen, and came up very fast as well.
That is most of my personal story of how I came into the Nox addiction, I'm gonna download a client tomorrow and try to play with some of you guys lol, take care.
