You burned games back then? In 7th grade lol.

Anyways. The nostalgia is strong with you. My haydays were with LutherX bubonic and the clan AGE and UH with Javier

Haha yeah, the thing was 99% of PC games released back then didn't have any CD Keys...and many of them weren't even online.  So you could literally just burn the game and have a fully functional copy, I don't want to go on the record as fact but I think that the command and conquer games may have been the first to use CD Keys.

I was also one of those kids that found someone to solder a mod chip into my ps1 and i'd goto local video stores and get all the ps1 games. good times.

Keep in mind that there wasn't any cable internet, no torrent websites...

that same year I was on Nox I found out how to use mIRC channels (pre-napster way to get stuff) to download mp3's as they were basically brand new.  I remember making a good amount of money selling the Marshal Mathers LP (possibly the first modern mp3 album leak?) when it leaked a month early in mIRC to kids in junior high school lol. Even more, I remember I used to be able to tell the weight difference of a booster pack of Pokemon cards that had the foil special ones and i'd slang those at jr high school too LOL. needless to say I was selling weed in college.

=======================================

I do remember the winner of the big big vegas trip contest was Had0ken, I dont think I ever fought against him but i'm sure he was either just some solo guy or he was from ICE or NNN.  I remember vividly that all the original ICE clan guys were really fuckin intimidating lol, while I treated all the cronies from Ember like scrubs.

(edit: after reading NOLIMIT's posts I remembered that Robdogg was Battlemage and apparently also Hadok3n...one of my best friends lol but I guess those details slipped by me. NOLIMIT had the coolest name and spawned many other people using that style including myself lol. ][2 //\\ Z ][ ][E ][_ or something like that.)

I should also note that I was shown that Westwood Online was a free service maybe 6-12 months prior to this...my dad's girlfriend at the time had family come in from NY and the uncle was #1 ladder champ of Red Alert for a month.  I had been playing C&C since maybe 5th or 6th grade but never really grasped the whole idea of playing people online.  He showed me that it was a free service and when i got on Nox I didn't even play the solo campaign till like a year into having the game. I can assume that I may have never even touched the online aspect if I wasn't aware of how to use it at the time.

Also, I came up extremely fast in the game on complete coincidence, I was just some kid who had been playing for like a week, with no clue about Clans or Ranked Matches or Solo Ladder Ratios...I would have gone on for a long long time just playing CTF and messing around if Calix didn't push me into meeting Wolfpack the leader of Krazy and gave me a chance to prove myself.

I know many people who started playing felt it hard to get into the niche of top tier just because there was a lot of egos at that level of gameplay, and the only real open recruitment was scrubs in CTF. you were very quick to judge people on their clan tags and ppl you felt weren't on your level, it was HIGHLY competitive and nobody in the top crews really ever brought new people. When you say names like nataS and KiLL those guys were dudes who stood out bigtime compared to 99% of the population in the 2nd gen, and came up very fast as well.

That is most of my personal story of how I came into the Nox addiction, I'm gonna download a client tomorrow and try to play with some of you guys lol, take care.

Yeah dude, fucking ICQ...rob and yze both used it since they were old asses and never stayed on AIM which everyone was starting to use....also finding people on ICQ was almost impossible because you had a 10+ digit login lol.

LOL! Well if it isn't Zee himself...

Magus of course

...
Well I had an "intro" post in that forum but I guess it got deleted in the last couple years? =/

Awesome that I get to be on the front page of this thread -- though I feel unworthy.

So anyhow, I was Magus...the first one back in 2000. I remember winning ladder at least once as wizard, once right above some guy named Rain, don't remember him well.

Other names I remember are: zeezo, exime, milo!!! (since I see them posting here), emin (who no one has mentioned but was a baller wiz), [nnn]madcow, [nnn]wynn, [nnn]felis, luna, hks, puffy, tempest, psy, paulwipe, mastamage, and then later on zidane (was okay but obnoxious ego).

I was in Ember and later on Fade before quitting after all the hacking/server issues/quest-bs.

I can actually remember most of the 5 rows of my spell setup and took great joy in beating people with my crappy 56k modem ping. Back then there were so many people playing that there was clear separation from the top-lower tier players. When not playing competitive games one of my favorite things to do in full games was to make traps, pick them up, and then walk around invis and see if I could drop them under peoples' feet. So what if it almost never worked -- the entertainment value for me was priceless. Let's see, I guess there was also the insta-kill traps on elevators...that was pretty lame I guess.

Just finished reading entire thread and I can say this was the best game/community I have ever been apart of, so many names and memories were posted in this thread that took me way back.   Anyone remember the East vs West CTF game that was hosted by westwood, you needed an invite(password) to get in, surprised no one mentioned that.  I wonder if anyone has a copy of that flash video I made a while back "nox album."  Currently I have been playing league of legends and am a full time professional poker player living in Las Vegas.  -Ace

lots of familiar names in this thread. i probably fought most of you. don't remember much though. i was just a lil shitbag in the 6th grade back then.

my name was ?Mystick?Gohan? (blinking question marks with a pure red character). always played a warrior. i was never in any of the big clans like The Sages of Nox, preferred to fight against them since they were the best at the time. i was in CHUR with Happy for a bit though.

i just remember how i started off in clan games as a pretty shit player, but near the end of my time playing i was fighting evenly with Tempest and single-handedly leading my clan to the #2-3 spot.

some random things i can remember:

Tom Green (good wizard)
Bubonic (we clanned together)
Ember Gold (always wanted to be in this clan cause i loved the name and the song on their website was epic as fuck)
"Everything is a blur...."
challenging Tempest to a duel when i had 56k and getting destroyed in front of everyone. it was brutal. made me want to get better though.
and fireking haha.. he was an idiot back then... but he actually got me to play helbreath, an awesome PvP mmo i would play for the next year or two, and meet some of the best people ever.

Since we're reminiscing I figured I'd mention my junk. I don't remember when (I totally suck with time) but I used to go over to my friends house and play it or watch him play it for, like a month. Then a good few years passed and it was probably around late 90's early 2000's (maybe a bit more back). Me and a couple of my friends found it on discount at Wall-Mart and bought it instantly (With the Quest pack). Got to their house, installed it and found the fucking wonder of online play. We all got it in one up and installed in one way or the other.
I never got anything I'd consider close to good, but I remember getting in a game and the host was hacking (we were all calling him Mayor, or the Mayor I don't fuckin know) and that's how I learned to do the basic hacks of the game but never went further.
I vividly remember playing the soccer one (I can't remember and was gonna boot up the game but having issues I don't feel like dealing with) and loving the conjurer. The capture the flag one with the two castle/keep like bases and lava all in the middle area with paths.
It was sad and I legit always feel a pang when I try and play now or remember back when less and less people got on. I remember it seems like the Koreans (if they were Korean, all I remember is the characters that couldn't be displayed on my game) were found more and more in the america games, then it seemed like I could barely find anyone with an English typeset and I stopped playing.
I also still remember how legit sad I was when I went to log in and found out that the servers were down. FeelsBadMan
Then it seems like I found out about the other servers for it and junk and it seemed like by the time I found out it was totally dead... Or piratically.

Man, I really miss this game lol. I gotta find a time I really feel like sorting out whatever is wrong (probably just use the install here and reinstall) and figure out if I can play the single player on my Win 10 (ugh).
