I'd pitch in for a dedicated box if it meant the return of ladder. Get at least four people and that's only ~$40 a month each. With more it's even less.

Haha charge a $5 ladder fee (Hell Blizzard does it with WoW) and you'd have that easy.

But then what if random people started joining that didnt pay? Would you just block all IP's somehow and allow each IP that paid? I'd be all for 5$ a person if it would keep it up steadily, and bring back ladder.....Maybe Clans? But thats a longshot.

Technically the ladder tracker could boot players if they weren't on the subscribers list.

But I don't think anyone is going to shell out $5 a month to be in a ladder system for a dead 9 year old game

Yeah, I guess not, but are you just waiting on a response from zxDragon? He was the one saying he was going to put up a dedicated server correct?

I can setup a dedicated box for you. Obviously you would need to keep bandwidth usage at a reasonable level. It would be housed in a machine room here at CMU. Let me know if you want it.

Specs:
Dell PowerEdge 1750
Windows 2003 Std.
Intel Xeon 2.8 ghz
1 GB RAM
36 GB (RAID 1)
1000 mbps

That Zoa, would make me cream my pants. Not bad at all for a server, and game server traffic is pretty low.

Nox has low bandwidth usage? I thought the method that the server uses to prevent client side hacking increased the traffic like a mofo.

Client: Can I do this
Server: yea you can here Update
Client: Thanks
Server: Np

Explain?

Low Bandwidth considering the security it offered.

Nox is low bandwidth compared to other things, like IRC servers, that use a constant 2 mbps. Or a Usenet server that uses a constant 500 mbps.
