Nox Forum

Well after 2 years, I'm back and I brought a present. I broke down and spent $40 to finally publish a Nox fansite. It's not 100% complete so please be patient. I joined the Army last year so I work on this site when I have free time and/or to get away from the guys in the barracks. I plan to have a huge collection of media including all custom wallpapers and watchable movies ... eventually. I also added some stuff like modified creatures, a few new spell icons, etc. But please feel free to browse around it and give me some feedback.

that's amazing! I really enjoyed surfing through the screenshots and history. You've done a fine job.

The site looks very cool! I specially liked those modified creatures, any way to actually include them in the game?

Thanks, we could include them in the game but it would take modifying the animations of each creature and that's something like 300 images per creature. Not really something I'd like to do. It was more for the imagination. Maybe one day.

I want to say thanks but I guess the insults prohibit me. I'm sure you are probably just being a fat troll but to set the record straight, I'm 28, been on my own for the last decade and in the Army. No need for mommy's money, I have your tax dollars. The fact that you think I'm an idiot just shows your faulty perception. But I got a laugh out of your post and I guess I could say thanks for the site compliments. I've had all the renders, screenshots, etc for quite awhile but never organized it into a site. I was a 2 month holdover at AIT, waiting for my airborne slot, so I finally sat down and typed up the site. I'm sure people have noticed I took some images from the D3 site to make the layout but I tried to replace the majority with Nox images. I'm sure Blizzard won't mind, as I'm not making a profit and emulation is the sincerest from of flattery. No need for your help to host the site, it's taken care of. I just need to work on getting it submitted to search engines.


Including the Map Database is something I plan to do in the future. Not just linking, but recreating it.



By the way, I don't expect Morden to compliment the site because of our past conversations. No matter, I just made it for the community to enjoy and again, any ideas, improvements, criticism is welcome. And while I aim to please, I still reserve the right to shoot down anything I don't want to include in the site.

The site isn't bad at all, what more do you want? It would have been nice to have 4 years ago sadly....

That  was answered when they were first made, if every animation for every pose was done then they could be inserted into the video.bag and their animations could be added to the thing.bin and they would work.

Didn't need your life story.. Good luck recreating the map database. It took me 2 days to write the PHP so I hope you can do better.

EDIT: Why rewrite it instead of just improving the existing one..

Looks good enough. Got a good chuckle at the idea of a splash page though. Graphics weren't bad either, granted a lot were game assets.

W3's validator was not impressed. Might want to consider addressing the errors and checking performance on older/different browsers.

What took so long, the rating system or submission sanitation?

Neither.. doing the images.. This was my first php project and I was a little new to having generated html on the fly and the concept of saving the map files and images into a unique directory for each entry.

Also all the checks I made on file size and image format so that faggots couldn't upload .exe's or 30 gig map files.

The code is messy but pretty good.


The admin page that allows you to delete entries and sign maps up for ladder was a little bit of work.. considering it wasn't ever used to its full potential.. it was supposed to take input from mordens ladder bot eventually..

It has no MODS either. But somehow it would be cool to have a mod compilation like different campaign difficulty levels or mods like ConinWar...

Edit: Hey, and how about a contest on the starting page, let's say for the beginning an example( I am just doing the contest, feel free to join):

Play Solo as Conjurer with modified rules:

- You are not allowed to take damage from any enemy you encounter (so use quick save a lot to reload if you're hit)
- You are not allowed to melee attack (only bow and crossbow and later the orb thing...you know what I mean)
- You are not allowed to use any Potions (don't take it from the ground if it would refill your mana)
- Use spell hack in the bginning to get burn and blink, start with blink only
- Get a new spell when you level up (9) + On the next Chapter (9) = 18 + Blink
- Be beautiful in your way (since you can wear what you want)

By the way: Does anyone know where I get all the spells since spell hack gave me only those two... [Edit: What? The first time I did this I only got those two abilities on lvl 5 and no beast scrolls but the next time I got them all and all spells ?!?]

there haven't been too many mods for nox. You pretty much have to have everyone else install the mod in order to play with each other. Nox isn't very mod friendly.

A third party program could have been created to install and manage mods much like minecraft has, I had plans for it but the community never took off and it wasn't ever needed.

Nox isn't very anything friendly.. Westwood had to rush it out the door.. Mods were never thought of when that game came out.

Even Quest was like a "Thank You and good night" patch. They gave it for free but it was kinda a way of saying.. we arent doing shit with this game

Good website, you can tell there was some really good effort put into some parts of the site, and I enjoyed scrolling through.

However there was one thing issue in the FAQ that I thought I should point out:

Can I make custom maps?
Currently there is no way to create your own maps, but Westwood plans to release quite a few of them with the game, and also have extras available for download occasionally.

This statement is quite wrong, there is and has been a map editor available for quite some time, I dont know if you made the site before the editor came out or whatever but I just thought id point it out.

Trust me, I know this. I've been around this forum, with different names, since D00D3R and Zoa. I was just posting the "official" FAQ from Westwood.

But I'm glad you like the site overall. I've been meaning to add Noxhub's map database, but i haven't really found much time. Life in the motor pool may sound like fun (sarcasm) but it's pretty time consuming, and having battalion runs seemingly every friday really discourages me from wanting to sit down and type on my little free time. But I'll get to eventually.

Well if we ever get the SDL patch working for all systems then we already have what companies have been calling "enhanced editions".
