Think I'm going to buy this game. Those dang wizards remind me so much of the little cannibal monks in the old Atari game Lode runner lol.

Challenge is in need of balance tweaks.

Just solo'd to 19 with invis and summon elemental.

Only died because I accidently picked up a book and a yeti ate me.

Yeah prophet, i think we should just consider summon elemental and zombie as a banned spell for the time being. Games a lot more fun without it.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Jekate on January 30, 2011, 03:12:48 pm
Yeah. Let's just quad beam all the enemies.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on January 30, 2011, 04:19:02 pm
Just so everyone knows, when any of the weather effects are happening,

(weather element)+shield -> selfcast

So if it's raining, and you're wet, cast water+shield->selfcast and you will be dry, and can't get wet until the water immunity is gone. Same goes for all the other elements. No more, "can't res you, it's raining"

This works really well with blizzard. Use cold immunity(cold+shield->selfcast) then cast blizzard and you won't suffer any of the slow effects.

Obviously this can be extended to thunderbolts and thunderstorms with lightning immunity.

Meteorshower... I'm guessing you use earth+fire shield for physical and fire immunity.

Opposing elements can't be defended against at the same time, but you can defend against any amount of elements that fit in the same bar with shield. duplicates of the same element affects the range of the immunity aura. That's what the swirling glyphs on the ground are.

----------------------

Beholders are best taken care of by defending their first volley, then hitting them with a cold beam, or cold spray to freeze them. They sweat after their first volley, maybe during it.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: RogueTeddyBear on January 31, 2011, 01:22:32 am
So far i've beaten two bosses by stooping them with shields and then placing mines behind them.
This casues them to fly out of the level, past any walls, and die.
Got stuck in a well too :(

Pretty fun though. I'm having a hard time giving up the M60 for another weapon.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on January 31, 2011, 01:50:09 pm
M60 is useless against armored targets. Eventually, most of the enemies become armored, including the goblins.

When/if you get thunderbolt, practice casting it until you've memorized it. One shot kill on most enemies, including the armored ones.

I'm modding the xml files for wave spawning and making a super hard challenge map. The default is just way too easy.

Also it'll be useful because if I add 10 waves and we actually complete the damn thing we'll be top of the ladder. Because all these faggots massing zombies and elementals to beat the stock game don't deserve to be there.

Last night me and jekate and two randoms took on a variation that added a beholder to every level and three to the first wave and 3 to the finals and beholder only waves.

It was much harder and enjoyable then default, you just had to remember to lightning immune at the start of every level. One of the play throughs though I found a staff of lightning immune and it was kind of cheap.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on January 31, 2011, 02:15:43 pm
Hmmm after posting about it in the steam forums I seem to have insulted some child that feels that increasing the difficulty is the worst thing ever because I can be top of the ladder because of it.

He seems to have missed the point.

can you upload it here?

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on February 01, 2011, 04:28:47 am
It goes in: C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\magicka\Content\Levels\Challenges

Just make a backup of the same file and use this one.

Oh yeah and only the host needs it. It's just adding extra beholders to every level but if we ever beat it i'll make an even harder on, right now we got raped on level 19 twice and never got to 19 besides that.

Iceball takes longer, but it does do more. It also depends on the target. On those fire spitting dragon things, it does like 27K.

For teh record this is a pretty complete list and it shows actual damage values

http://www.magickapedia.net/index.php?title=Spell_Combinations (http://www.magickapedia.net/index.php?title=Spell_Combinations)

*Edit* and since i last checked they added a new resistance aura that is effective verse everything...hmmm

Why do all the people that play the pvp xml suck so hard? I'm hoping it's just the ones recording are awful.

Or maybe there's some ruleset that bans most spells.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on February 09, 2011, 01:45:45 pm
Prophet, 99% of all magicka users are horrible, remember? Even the ones crushing challenge mode just spam e-shift-right click shield and heal bombs and sit back inside of it and attack things (looking at YOU neo, your videos suck balls).

Hell most of them are using the one key macros too because they are all too pussy and slow to manually cast shit. When the mode is added in we'll crush the living shit out of all of them.

Also yes, the xml generally bans most space key spells except haste and teleport.

My ideal setup would prob be:

Limit 1 elemental
Limit 0 zombies or 1 zombies with lower hp
All other spells enabled but with thunderbolt having a higher chance of self targeting

If you really try to cast a channeling spell you'd get punished by a good player anyway.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 09, 2011, 02:49:28 pm
All other spells enabled but with thunderbolt having a higher chance of self targeting

"chance to fail" is always bad in player versus player. There are plenty of counters to thunderbolt and resist lightning can't be nullified. Can you imagine Westwood adding a "chance to backfire" on deathray? Id give railgun a chance to fail? Thunderstorm is the only way to kill yourself with a lightning bolt. Thunderbolt will just whiff. Thunderbolt actually prefers magic barriers such as rocks and shields to living targets and will go almost out of their way to hit them.

I don't see what the issue with magicks is. They can all be nullified. Maybe not grease, but I've never bothered. And if you can't nullify them in time, you can always resist their element. Seriously, magicks are what add the danger and challenge. Avoiding beams and ball attacks are no sweat. Oh, and summons are worthless. As soon as I see an elemental or zombie pop up, I'd nullify. Dunno if that works on treants summoned from the wand, but prevailing reason points to yes.

More reasonably, there may be an indoor arena. Indoors, none of the environment magicks work or thunderbolt. There's still some fun stuff, but I feel like indoors would be easy mode.

-----

Before arena is officially supported, I'd like to see the element queue bar receive some performance tlc so it's impossible for the game to miss my keys. That would probably be my only gripe during pvp. Dunno if people using macros will bother me yet. Think it's lame, sure. But I think counters are way easier to cast. Lightning bolt macro might be a bitch. I plan to keep lightning resist up at the bare minimum always though.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on February 09, 2011, 03:45:15 pm
You can nullify lightning resist......nullify it and then pop thunderbolt = dead player

morden proph or jek. have you guys tried the pvp xml yet then?

You can't nullify resists. Try it yourself.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?

huh?

Use Resist Fire, teleport to his belly and use the deathbeam combo.

Who confuses and swaps the keys?

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: philliyxx on February 11, 2011, 01:03:49 pm
I did.. that. Deathbeam -s qf qf qf a r? If you take too long when his health is low he uses mind powers and swaps keys.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 11, 2011, 02:16:17 pm
Never noticed.

I guess they added something to stop you from sitting between his tail and his belly because I had no trouble doing that. Think I had to recast the beam once or twice but didn't need to move really.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on February 11, 2011, 02:28:44 pm
Prob one of the bug fixs that they added to adventure

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 11, 2011, 02:42:32 pm
It wasn't a bug. It's a spot you're supposed to stand in order to hit his belly at all. Heh.

More like a balance fix than anything.

When I went through campaign the other night, I was able to reach the spot which doesn't require some exploit or anything. You can teleport to it. Then again, I was using Gram so I could get that achievement and never think about it again so he died in one hit.  :-D

---

I've gotten to the point where I've registered on the paradox forum and must now wait five days to rage on the idiots. Specifically "I won't buy it till it's no longer required to use steam. I just don't trust them." This is probably the same kind of guy that bought his car from a used car dealership because the salesman had an honest face.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 12, 2011, 12:04:37 am
Walk in front of his tail and cast teleport. You should be standing directly between his belly and his tail.

I was able to do it in the most recent patch.

You can walk around his tail too. Or straight too his stomach when he lifts his tail.

that old keyboard i had the "g15" would make this game the shit . even thought having to remember everything is a skill of its own.. im getin better  but the shift and all the difrent ways you cast stuff sometimes goes to shit in the heat of battle running around frantic just to cast a spell to kill myself is always priceless.

also having hard time figuring out how to cast them spells that require steam but if do the combo to put steam into the spell the water usally cancles something. making it so i can t do the spell right..

figured out what was crashing my system some reason its heating up my system and shuts it down. im try to juice up my ram from 1 to 2gb hoping thats gonna make it not have to work so hard.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?

You have to use fire before water.

Also macros are cheats

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 17, 2011, 02:38:39 am
You have to use fire before water.

The exact combination only matters to the entire combination.

fire+water, water+fire will produce the same result. You can further morph the element by adding cold which will turn it back to water, and then cold again to turn it into ice. Same in reverse by adding fire.

Title: Re: Magicka anyone?
Post by: Morden Tral on February 17, 2011, 03:02:23 am

Post by: #zx.pr0jk on February 17, 2011, 03:16:12 am
Figure I should mention, in order to get fire+steam and water+steam with fire or water first, you have to do

fire > fire > water = fire+steam

water > water > fire = water+steam

In case anyone was confused. And I've seen some videos on youtube of people that can't grasp concepts like that no matter how many times they go over combinations.

It's only really fun when you can get some friends to co-op with you. I couldn't really immerse myself playing alone.

Theres nothing like casting a spell that not only rapes you and your friend, but crashes the game, too.

Just thought that a fully DLC enabled Magicka Arcade Cabinet would be amazing. Using sense-pads instead of joysticks.

Fuck yea.

I bought all their dlc instantly again...

The damn rogue robes are op as fuck. Innate haste AND extra teleport? You can go rogue, use the smoke bomb, and cast tele and you'll be TTT in no time. And I noticed the Knife of Counter-Striking doesn't appear to spawn(for understandable reasons). Still would love to see just how fast he can get with haste and that knife. I haven't played on the new arenas yet, but vulcanis is awesome. The phasers will sneak up on you with their damage.

I also like a lot of the rebalancing. That "super beam" seems to have been nerfed hardcore. And beams in general have a much shorter duration. Grease fires look like they got a buff as well. The new lobby is much nicer as well, in my opinion.

Get haste+tele on the tank, and it's good times with the Wand of Power(w/e the x2 health wand is).

I'm thinking about gifting my roomy the complete set. He was always kinda interested in the game.

Schedule a time, and I'll play.

Ima have to go and practice up on the game again. I tried it last night and nothing worked like I remembered. Also the wonky new pvp mechanics had me confused for a bit, need to learn all of the exact changes.

But yeah, shits gonna be fun

shield would probably be one of the first to learn. According to the devs its more of a last minute save since it doesn't last as long but you can buff it up. Seems like people love to spam the fireball rock arcane meteor a lot.

That "one hit kill" sword swing is useless nowadays. It "may" break a shield, but it won't kill outright unless they're completely naked.

The ice+ice+lightning+shield+arcane enchant is crucial though and has significantly better range and penetratrion.

Also, a lightning+fire+varient resist aura is vital to keep up as long as possible.

Earth+shield no longer selfcasts you in place. You move slower depending on the strength of earth, and it acts as a supplement hp like regular shield does. You can't have both. Also, Ice+Shield seems to act like a thorns/iron maiden type ability against melee while offering some protection. Get used to popping up ordinary shields to deflect beams onto themselves.

The tank robe is immune to bullets(godsend when someone picks up an m60). But extremely slow. The rogue robe is extremely fast but can't take more than a hit or two. Considering the strength of lag, I'd recommend against using rogue for a while.

Also found knife of counterstriking. Still drops, still legit. You can ban/allow different packs of items though.

I played a little bit yesterday, but I think I would prefer playing with some nox players. I will jump on a little bit today and maybe fraps a little bit of gameplay. Expect to see me get slaughtered.

Yea joined a random lobby where the other team you could tell had been playing PVP so they knew some good spells. AKA ice+earth+electric+ shield or whatever (O.P!).

had 2 decent battles out of like 6 rounds.

Your arcane resist aura was cancelling your enchanted sword swing.

The more of one element you have in the aura, the larger the aura. Not stronger. So every time you went in to slice him, he was getting your arcane resist and it countered your sword swing.

Don't use the L+L+S+S+A Enchant. Its range sucks, and most of the time they'll be resisting arcane anyway since it'll trump beams.

The ice+arcane+lightning+shield enchant is way better. That's the enchant that makes the exploding lightning ice pillars.

Current Spells you must know for pvp:

Protective:

Lightning+Arcane+Fire+Shield - Negates all beams, fireballs, and lightning from one sword enchant.

Shield+Earth+Earth+Earth+Earth - The hardest armor you can wear versus physical attacks. It slows you down though.

Lightning+Arcane+Shield+Ice+Cold - The direct counter for the best sword enchant.

Enchant:

Lightning+Arcane+Shield+Ice+Cold - Creates four ice pillars that arc electricity and when they melt explode into arcane damage. Penetrates shields, and goes over mines. If you're not careful, you can kill/frost yourself with it though, so it's good to have one of the above protects already active.

Shield+Earth+Steam+Steam+Steam - Creates four rock pillars the have tremendous knockback. Touching one will generally result in being catapulted into a wall fast enough to instantly kill you.

Spells:

Generally, you'll want to cast either Coldball or Fireball because the protection spells don't cover one or the other. Two uncharged fireballs with 3/2fire+3/2earth will generally kill anyone on two direct hits.

Robe:

If you're in a game with a lot of patriot wizards, it's a good idea to wear tank armor. The tank wizard is almost completely immune to bullets. Only the Nagant can penetrate the armor. And it has pitiful dps so it's not a problem. Until people wise up to how shit guns are for the most part, this will make games easy.

If you can, use Rogue. The mobility+free teleport are hard to deal with. You're able to turn your back to the enemy in order to teleport directly onto them. You suffer having lower hp, but most kills are instant anyway. So getting them to connect or dodge others is most important.

The only time I'd ever suggest using bug wizard is when you're against people that like to grab high ground arc fireballs/coldballs/iceballs onto you. Just sit back, and let the summons stack up. Eventually they'll have to come down. In otherwords, don't use bug unless it's on Watchtower. It's no better than anything else otherwise.

Next DLC announced.

TOSOTC(the other side of the coin), where you play as "Alucart" and up to 3 necromancers fighting the combined forces of mankind such as elves dwarves and new humans.

4 bucks. I already know I'll be getting it.

I beat it last night and tbh it could have been a little longer.

It is pretty comparable to the Vietnam expansion length and difficulty wise. They could have really done more Castlevania references, but overall i guess its still worth the $

I was using the necro robes in versus and the host ragequit when the score was 15-5-3. Took me 3 deaths to get back into the swing of things.

Yea. Worth the money. Felt short, but it also came with more challenge maps included than the last pack.

Did you play it? Bloodline doesn't have any nox feeling. This game does.
I highly recommend wizard wars to any old nox player. It's quite close and will get closer with new pvp game modes to come.
It may finally fill the third-person-pvp void which nox left.
