Hey guys!

Hey my name is Johnny but I use my online alias (Nesuke). I used to play this game ALOT when I was in my teens, and I actually almost cried when they took the dedicated servers down and announced there would be no sequel to the first game.
So, anyway I am part of an online gaming clan called "Blaze Gaming" (
www.blaze-gaming.com
). We mostly play on Steam powered games although lately alot of the members have dissapeared into LoL. Games we usually play are Terraria, CS:S, TF2, Killing Floor, MW2, APB Reloaded and L4D2, with a couple playing WoW, (but they get stick for it).
Anyway I had a great idea about getting my clan interested in NoX. I think we'd have a load of fun playing it and it will certainly keep them occupied for at least a month, maybe permanently if they get into CTF and other great PvP scenarios lol. I'd like to kind of sync us with you if possible, just so they have more information about the game and the possibilities of fun. Maybe resulting in some of you joining us in some fun on a server of some kind. If it got popular enough then we'd probably look into a ded server.
Just a couple of questions really. 1. wolonline.exe now offers just the lobby I noticed, with a custom server left up (WIZ?? or something) So, what's the ping like off that, I went on it last night and found it was a little laggy at times, I know for sure I'd get schooled in a game of NoX Online if I played on the one I was on. I don't know if it was the host or me but it was just too slow for gaming. 2. I'm not up on server talk, the most I've done on the server side is click and drag on filezilla and setting up a Surf Server for CS:S assisting my mate, creating custom configs for plugins using steam IDs. So how would we go about online play which would offer the best most smoothest NoX experience??

yeah, that was my server you was on, and I suppose since you're from USA my euro server kind of sucks for you (and koreans)
anyways, someone is supposed to host if you're wanting to play with proper ping. since you are part of a clan, ask someone who can?

I'd love to join in on the clan fun.
The Koreans seem to do fine on your server, they all have ping <100

Oh sorry. I didn't mean to offend you.
Anyway me and my friend did a few tests yesterday and figured this game is perfect for Hamachi hosting. So I think I'll make my own Hamachi Server and post that up once it's online. For some reason we kept getting kicked back to lobby with westwood online, I'm not sure why. I'll see if I can get anymore people interested and keep you posted dudes.

You get kicked back to lobby because of bad port setups, and hamachi is no faster then westwood online so it would actually do nothing but lower the possible players.

Right, well it was fine for me, but my friend tried it and it was happening all the time, but I remember we were messing about with ports to set up a LAN on CS:S so maybe his settings are wrong.
You are right though, I hope that the server gets populated because NoX is my favourite game, always has been and it's a real shame the franchise was cut short, it could've been the biggest game around had Westwood carried on and made a sequel.

Only if they dumbed it down, the game mechanics (while amazing and unique) are not natural to the average player and it never really stood a chance as it was of getting to the scale of the big names. It suffered from being so good, and so different that new players just couldn't learn it fast enough to have a rewarding experience.
I mean, maybe some sort of ranking system like current games have to seperate the player base a bit would have helped. In the beginning of the game it wasn't as bad, but a year or two into it anyone that loaded up fresh was just strip mined into the ground. Some players took it as a challenge and kept going but the player numbers couldn't keep up with the drain of new blood just leaving.
The only form of rankings they had was basically (join server, rape everyone, get points) it promoted killing the new players as much as possible.

lol
did you play Nox?
Posted on: January 01, 2012, 06:08:20 PM
the only thing that Nox suffered from was Diablo II.
they had a great system where you Newies could play on THE NEWBIE server and you weren't allowed back in those servers after you did XXXX well at which point you were forced to play the regular servers where you didn't get 2x life and people were indeed much better. i literally remember the day i was "banned" from the newbie servers and i was blown away by how good people were in the regular arena games. like every game though, you learn from dying, and people being better than you, very quickly and you either match their skill level, or become better than them, or strive to, get frustrated, and quit. and how the hell are the game mechanics of left click to shoot/fire/attack and right click to move "not natural to the average player" ??

Because they aren't? I've tried introducing the game to a lot of players and it just doesn't come to them like other control schemas, let alone holding down the button to move while sweeping the mouse.
Also the newbie servers were easily smurfed and had altered rules to them that made the normal servers harder when you got into them. Even once out of the newbie servers you hardly knew shit about how to properly play the game.
The game is/was fantastic and thankfully wasn't dumbed down on its first iteration, the argument was whether it could have become "huge" and "mainstream" with its mechanics as they are in a sequel and I said no.
Obviously I stuck with the game after my introduction as did every one else here, the massive amount of players that didn't is what killed it being as big as diablo/quake/counter strike or one of the names you could throw out and have everyone recognize. You can't find someone that spent any real time with the game and doesn't laud it as being wonderful, but you also can't find that many people that spent that time to realize it.
A second version of it with say the architecture of quake live and you'd have a different beast. Much more accessible to new players, a good un frustrating experience regardless of skill level, and a larger name.

I've bound move to W to make it feel a bit more natural, but really it was one of the things that I really liked about the game. I also had the pleasure of finding out this game was made and written by Michael S. Booth. The very same guy who created Counterstrike Source and Left 4 Dead....

Forgot about this thread.
More than a few times, I have befriended people irl and have either noticed Nox on my Steam or Facebook and they start raving to me about it- always a wonderful conversation. I'm yet to meet anyone who played multiplayer though...
